Smoked haddock fishcake with sorrel sauce was also very pleasant, the filling having plenty of haddock and the outside coating properly cooked, the sorrel sauce not having a great deal of flavour though…

The bar food is outstanding, uncomplicated British cuisine rendered in perfect and generous portions; the bar snacks range from pork scratchings, pickled eggs and cockles to generous mains (roasts, pies, burgers, accompanied by excellent chips cooked in goose fat)…

While none of the meals blew me away, the Fox & Anchor is a good choice for gutsy, simple food. I left thinking that this would be a great pub to take visitors to London if they wanted to experience a traditional English pub and some old fashioned English cooking…

Because what we have here isn’t really a gastropub, it’s a sympathetic and lovely renovation of a historic old boozer – the enchanting private booths at the back alone are worth the visit – with a sensible approach to food and (…) a mainly spot-on delivery. And for this, we should be grateful…
