It is eclectic but not dated and the cooking is totally assured and confident. Our mains, in particular, were quality – my pork loin with wild mushrooms was hearty and earthy and plate-lickingly good…

The space is light and white and airy and looks out across the widening river on to the clutter of wharfs on the north bank; there is a pair of opera glasses on each table, so you can be nosey and have a look at what’s going on over there…
