Grain Store Kings Cross restaurant reviews

We wrote about Bruno Loubet’s new King’s Cross opening Grain Store two weeks ago and suggested to get you table booking in “if you want to beat the restaurant critics to it”.

Well if you haven’t, then your chances just got a bit slimmer. From Giles Coren to Lisa Markwell and Guy Dimond, the critics have put Grain Store to the test and found it to be – to quote The Independent – “a new vegetable Nirvana”. We count 6/6 YAY reviews.

But don’t despair – there is still hope if you’re quick. As we write this, you can still some tables

Clove Club restaurant reviews

It’s probably too early to make this claim but The Clove Club in beautiful and historic Shoreditch Town Hall continues to make waves. Since opening in March, critics and bloggers alike have raved about the sophisticated food served in contrasting “austere” surroundings.

“Nobody in London was eating a more sophisticated, unflashy or epicurean dinner than we were.” AA Gill [Sunday Times]

“The Clove Club’s cooking is intentionally avant-garde.” Guy Dimond [Time Out]

El Celler de Can Roca - world's best restaurant

It was never easy to get a table at El Celler de Can Roca in Girona. But since the restaurant won the title of ‘World’s Best Restaurant’ at the World’s 50 Best Restaurant awards 2013, it requires proper long term planning.

As Eater reports, the restaurant only accepts reservations 11 months in advance. The next 11 months are fully booked, but bookings for May 2014 are taken from today on +34 972 222 157.

Follow us on twitter or tumblr to keep up to date with all the restaurant awards that count (from London to Asia).

Best Chinese Restaurant in North London

“The way to spot the best Chinese restaurant is to find the one with the most Jews in it…” said the Times’ restaurant critic Giles Coren during his appearance at the 2013 Hay Festival in Wales; “…if you’re meant to be prohibited from eating pork and shellfish it’d better be worth it.”

Unfortunately, following a part of the Jewish community to North London, we don’t encounter a wealth of Chinese options, but there are two Chinese restaurants up North (-ish) that have received nothing but praise from critics:

Aggregating critic opinions for plays and shows

FoodVerdicts strongly believes in two premises: expert knowledge is superior, and more experts give a truer representation than fewer.

We were therefore more than excited when we recently met the founder of StageScan, a website which does essentially the same for theatres what we do for restaurants. StageScan collects the latest critic reviews for new plays and shows, and allows you to follow specific directors, actors, or theatre companies.

The King’s Cross area has benefited from a massive regeneration over the past few years. And the local restaurant scene has followed suit with several high profile openings from Marcus Wareing’s Gilbert Scott to quirky Karpo across the road.

Now British restaurant Plum + Spilt Milk at the newly opened Great Northern Hotel has thrown its hat in the ring and the first review is positive.
