FAQ

What’s the site about?

FoodVerdicts was created to provide an unbiased and convenient guide through the London restaurant scene. There are many influential critics, opinionated reviewers and prestigious awards, but you don’t want to rely on a single voice or spend hours browsing and searching for the perfect restaurant that meets your needs. We want to help you make up your mind within minutes – and if you enjoy eating out as much as we do, maybe linger for a bit to read about hot new restaurants, trends and controversies, and put together your own handy list of favourites.

So how can you help me find the right restaurant?

We’ve tried to make our search as flexible as possible. Browse our site by location, cuisine or even occasion (so you don’t have your romantic date next to a stag party). Use the search box or the advanced search function if you know what you’re looking for and then tweak your results with the “refine search” function on the left. Easy.

How do you come up with the VERDICT?

We combine thousands of opinions, reviews, awards and ratings into one definitive VERDICT for each restaurant. We are impartial – no VERDICT can be influenced by advertising, sponsoring, freebies or favours.  Here’s how we do it in more detail: How we do it

What’s the dashboard for?

Forgot the name of a great restaurant someone at work recommended? And remember all those emails, crumpled newspaper cuttings or restaurant business cards you’ve collected – never to be found again? How about storing all this information in one place and accessing it wherever you are – registering is free and all our users have a dashboard with two personal lists: “Been here” and “Wish list” (these are completely private). Add restaurants to your lists with a click, rate and tag them so you remember the real gems, and book a table right there.

How can I book a table?

We’ve teamed up with OpenTable to enable you to book directly from our site. Wherever you see the “Book online” links you can check real-time availability and a reservation is just a click away. With each eligible booking you’ll be able to collect OpenTable dining rewards - these add up to dining cheques which can be used at most OpenTable restaurants. And after you’ve dined, don’t forget to come back, add the restaurant to your dashboard, rate it and see if you agree with the VERDICT.

Can you tell me what’s going on in the London restaurant scene?

The easiest way to stay up to date is to register and receive our newsletter. We’ll tell you about new openings, the latest trends and industry gossip. Also make sure to browse the Out and About section of our site where we feature a selection of articles by the capital’s best food writers and our favourite bloggers, Twitter and other social media highlights, as well as our own posts.

Who’s debating in The Debate?

London’s restaurant critics are famously opinionated and don’t tend to mince their words. Inevitably they often end up disagreeing passionately – one critic’s zero-star disaster is another’s restaurant revelation of the year. See what they have to say and be the judge – our users have the last word by casting their votes.

Just tell me where to go, I’ll do whatever you say!

Okay nobody’s actually said that to us but if you want an idea you might not have thought of, try Pot Luck. Give it a spin and it’ll suggest one restaurant at a time. It’s not just going to be the latest celebrity chef venture that’s in all the papers; instead we select (and continuously update) a good mix of classics, the fun & quirky, and hidden gems that deserve a chance to impress you. Not convinced? Simply spin again.
