Tommi's Burger Joint re-opening in Marylebone
Posted on: August 4, 2013
Tommi Tómasson opened his first hamburger joint in Iceland in 1981 and is widely known as the guy who brought hamburgers to Iceland. There are around 20 Tommi Hamburger restaurants in Iceland alone!
In June of 2012, together with head chef Siggi Gunnlaugsson, he opened a pop up restaurant on Marylebone Lane and for the first few months, personally flipped burgers each day at the restaurant. Despite fierce competition from other gourmet burger outfits in London [Honest Burgers (Brixton, Camden, Soho), Burger & Lobster (Soho, Mayfair, Farringdon), Bar Boulud], critic reviews were glowing and the restaurant scored a VERDICT of 67% with unanimous ‘Yays’ from 3 critics and 2 bloggers. Read the reviews here.
Tommi’s Burger Joint closed temporarily this year whilst relocating to its new premises around the corner on Thayer Street. Now (from 6 August), Tommi’s is open again. Food remains focussed on high quality burgers cooked on gas grills to give it a charcoal flavour, along with other American dishes such as Rib eye steak or Chicken in honey sauce. In addition, the new restaurant now offers milkshakes.
